Air2Web Mobilizes Social Networking Website PL8Scan.com
Social Networking Takes Over the Streets of Tucson
ATLANTA, GA - November 30, 2006. Air2Web, the leading provider of mobile messaging and marketing applications, today announced its partnership with PL8Scan.com, a social networking website that allows users to identify one another through license plate numbers and communicate via text messages and bulletin boards.
The partnership, which was facilitated by Galapagos Marketing, the Arizona-based marketing agency that represents PL8Scan, will enable SMS delivery service across all carriers, to any wireless device.
The site, (www.PL8Scan.com) which officially launched October 1, acts as a repository for SMS and web-originated messages. When a user texts a plate number and message to the PL8Scan system, the message is stored (indefinitely) and accessible through the website. If the recipient is a registered PL8Scan member, the message is instantly forwarded to his/her mobile number, creating an SMS chat-like environment.
“PL8Scan extends the usability and reach of social networking to mobile devices,” said Steve Wagner, CEO of PL8Scan. “We are confident that today’s social networkers are ready to take another step forward in peer-to-peer communication.”
Although Wagner believes the SMS feature of PL8Scan will significantly drive membership, the original strategy behind PL8Scan.com did not include a mobile initiative. Because of the successful adoption of text messaging throughout the Generation Y audience, (social networking paragon My Space ranked number one, followed by Classmates.com at a distant second in internet page views in June of 2006), Galapagos Marketing suggested expanding the PL8Scan idea to mobile phones. “After a brief analysis, we realized that SMS messaging was going to give us the edge we needed to distinguish our client’s site from other networking sites,” said Robert Waldrop, Senior Partner, Galapagos Marketing.
By leveraging Air2Web’s connectivity (direct connections to 500 wireless carriers in 220 countries), PL8Scan has experienced a smooth entrance into the mobile messaging space. As this regionalized version of social networking continues to penetrate the U.S., SMS volumes will undoubtedly reflect PL8Scan adoption among the Generation Y community, validating analyst predictions that U.S. text messaging volumes will grow to 1.5 trillion by 2008.
