Retain Midcycle Customers and Save the Planet…At the Same Time!

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Verizon sent me a pretty cool text message on July 7. I would have written about it sooner, but I was, um, washing my hair…for, um, over two weeks.

Here’s what it said:

From: 900070003548
Free Verizon Wireless
Msg: We will give you a
$10 bill credit AND plant a
tree on your behalf when
you sign up for paperless
billing & autopay! Log on
to vzw.com/myverizon,
click profile, & update bill
options. Offer ends
7/13//08. To opt out of
future messages, reply X.

I thought that was a pretty cool offer, especially since I always view my bill online and never actually open the paper bill I receive at home. And a tree! Just for me? Just for getting rid of something I didn’t like anyway? Very cool. (more…)

Apple Sells 1 Million iPhones in Three Days

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Good morrow, mobileteers.

So according to FierceWireless and RCR News and probably every news site out there, Apple sold 1 million iPhones in the opening weekend.

I haven’t jumped on the bandwagon yet because I still have a year to go on my Verizon contract (and because I think I’d find myself in an identity crisis without my trusty RAZR). However, as Miss Mobile, I feel I need to have an iPhone. You know, just for the sake of research purposes. (Ahem, Air2Web, I’m dropping a hint here.) (more…)

Get Tan and Go Green with Hollywood Tans’ Mobile Campaign

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

So, I just had lunch at Pricci in Buckhead, and as I was waiting at the red light at Pharr and Peachtree, I saw an advertisement on a bus stop that said, “Text TAN to 38714.” So I did, of course.

After the initial confirmation message (”Hollywood Tans Alerts. No charge per msg but stnd rates apply. Up to 5 alerts per month. Reply YES to continue. Txt STOP to end or HELP 4 info.”), I received a pretty cool offer:

Show this text 2 any
Hollywood Tans - ATL
salon & get 1 FREE HT60
or a $10 spray tan. Call
404-240-3323 for info.

As a marketer I’m thinking, how cool is that! For the cost of one poster and some ad space, you not only put your brand-name in the palm of someone’s hand, but you also get that person in your store where you can sell them even more stuff. (more…)

Ditch My Trusty RAZR? I Just Might for an iPhone

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Have you ever seen a woman suddenly halt in front of a jewelry store window? An exquisite diamond necklace gleaming in the sunlight has caught her eye. She can’t speak it’s so breathtaking. She stands motionless. Her eyes glaze over. Her hand loosens its grip on her purse. She thinks about what she’d look like wearing it, how it would drape over her collar bone, how the diamonds would catch the light as she brushes her hair off her shoulders. In her mind she receives imaginary compliments but shrugs them off modestly. (more…)

Mobile Alert System Brought to You by FEMA

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

Miss Mobile here. I was just reading that Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said it would be the national coordinator for a “cell phone alert system,” which would, I’m guessing, send mobile alerts to warn people of natural and man-made disasters. I say “I’m guessing” because the article wasn’t very clear about what the system would actually do. (more…)

Miss Mobile — I can text message Google?

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Miss MobileToo many people in this industry make grand statements about how mobile-savvy they are….How tapped into the market they are, how they know what users want, how they can tell you the seven best ways to blah blah blah. I know. It’s annoying. Well, here’s one more person to add to that list.

I’m not an expert. I don’t have twenty years experience in the telecom industry. I’m just your average 26 year-old gal living in Atlanta who gets a little panicky when there’s only one bar of battery life left on her cell phone. Enough of the introductions. Welcome to my column.

So much of my life right now orbits around the moderately-sized screen of my RAZR. I have a tendency to exaggerate, so let me prove it to you with a brief but detailed view of my life. (more…)
