To Switch or Not to Switch

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

There are a number of iPhone reviews on the Web; a good overview of the pros and cons of the device can be found here and here, and a very detailed breakdown of device features is available here. Rather than add to what’s widely available, this review of Apple’s 2nd generation iPhone caters to those considering switching from a RIM Blackberry. In my case, a Blackberry 8820.

I’ve been a heavy Blackberry user for about 5 years, long enough to grow forgiving of its shortfalls and fond of its quirks, like an old pair of tennis shoes you have every reason to throw away, but just can’t. I played around quite a bit with the first gen iPhone, but without 3G support and a bona-fide email client, it was easy to resist. The 2nd gen iPhone fixed these problems, and further resistance was futile. (more…)

Retain Midcycle Customers and Save the Planet…At the Same Time!

Verizon sent me a pretty cool text message on July 7. I would have written about it sooner, but I was, um, washing my hair…for, um, over two weeks.

Here’s what it said:

From: 900070003548
Free Verizon Wireless
Msg: We will give you a
$10 bill credit AND plant a
tree on your behalf when
you sign up for paperless
billing & autopay! Log on
to vzw.com/myverizon,
click profile, & update bill
options. Offer ends
7/13//08. To opt out of
future messages, reply X.

I thought that was a pretty cool offer, especially since I always view my bill online and never actually open the paper bill I receive at home. And a tree! Just for me? Just for getting rid of something I didn’t like anyway? Very cool. (more…)

Apple Sells 1 Million iPhones in Three Days

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Good morrow, mobileteers.

So according to FierceWireless and RCR News and probably every news site out there, Apple sold 1 million iPhones in the opening weekend.

I haven’t jumped on the bandwagon yet because I still have a year to go on my Verizon contract (and because I think I’d find myself in an identity crisis without my trusty RAZR). However, as Miss Mobile, I feel I need to have an iPhone. You know, just for the sake of research purposes. (Ahem, Air2Web, I’m dropping a hint here.) (more…)

The Mobile Marketer’s Intro to the iPhone

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Spend much time in the halls of mobile companies these days and you’ll be privy to prolific chatter about the second generation of Apple’s precedent-setting iPhone, scheduled for release on July 11th.  Even before the original iPhone was released, back when there were only whispers, smoke and mirrors about Apple’s plans, industry insiders speculated feverishly about when the juggernaut would awaken from its mobile slumber.

By almost all accounts, Apple’s first pass in the mobile space was an unmitigated success. The device was stunningly beautiful, the touchscreen worked surprisingly well, the accelerometer (the doohickey that changes the screen based on the orientation of the device) was an instant benchmark, and the browser served up rich HTML. Undergirding its incredible functionality was Apple’s utter mastery of UI; the device was simpler to use than a preponderance of lesser devices. (more…)

Ditch My Trusty RAZR? I Just Might for an iPhone

Have you ever seen a woman suddenly halt in front of a jewelry store window? An exquisite diamond necklace gleaming in the sunlight has caught her eye. She can’t speak it’s so breathtaking. She stands motionless. Her eyes glaze over. Her hand loosens its grip on her purse. She thinks about what she’d look like wearing it, how it would drape over her collar bone, how the diamonds would catch the light as she brushes her hair off her shoulders. In her mind she receives imaginary compliments but shrugs them off modestly. (more…)
