Ditch My Trusty RAZR? I Just Might for an iPhone

Have you ever seen a woman suddenly halt in front of a jewelry store window? An exquisite diamond necklace gleaming in the sunlight has caught her eye. She can’t speak it’s so breathtaking. She stands motionless. Her eyes glaze over. Her hand loosens its grip on her purse. She thinks about what she’d look like wearing it, how it would drape over her collar bone, how the diamonds would catch the light as she brushes her hair off her shoulders. In her mind she receives imaginary compliments but shrugs them off modestly. “Oh, this? My necklace? Oh, thank you. Yes, I love it too. It’s my treasure.” She thinks about how wonderful her life would be if she walked into the jewelry store that instant and said, “I’ll take it.”

Where am you going with this, you ask? I’m getting there.

The way the woman looks at that diamond necklace is the way I’m looking at the iPhone right now. Oh, that sleek body. That immaculately organized interface. That fantastic way that light reflects off its surface. I think about how it would look in my hand. Next to my ear. I imagine checking my email at a trendy coffee shop. Browsing the internet. Taking a call. I envision crossing paths with other iPhone users. We make eye contact and exchange a knowing look. We know how a mobile phone should work, should look. We know that our lives are better because this one thing is right with the world.

Ladies. Gentlemen. The new 3G iPhone is here. “Twice as fast. Half the price.” I think I’m in love.
